Sick again...
Well, I thought we were all gradually getting over our illnesses, but I guess I was wrong. We went to the ENT this morning for a scheduled re-check of Claire's ears to make sure the tubes were still in place. But, he said they were out and there was fluid in one ear...which means EAR INFECTION! No wonder she's been cranky the last couple of weeks and had a runny nose that I can't get to go away. He put her on a strong antibiotic, but said if it doesn't clear up then we will have to talk about having her adnoids (sp??) out. We're hoping it will clear up so we can avoid any more surgeries:) I just want us all to be healthy!!!

so sorry, JB. REid has to have his adenoids x-rayed once he finishes his current cold b/c he wheezes at night and has trouble breathing. I didn't know adenoids existed!
i dont even know what adenoids are and what their purpose is..or why they have any effect on ear infections, etc..
Emily had to have a second set of tubes over a year ago and her adenoids removed at the same time and we have had no problems since...maybe 1 ear infection that went away with meds. Basically what Dr. Fulmer told us is that adenoids are like sponges and they just harbor bacteria, so even though the fluid in their ears clears up, as soon as any more gets in there, the bacteria in the adenoids causes another infection. They are like tonsils I think, they just act as extra filters but you don't really need them. I think they are in the back of their throat really far. The tubes and adenoids was a very easy procedure and she was fine afterward, so if you have to do it, it's really easy!
thanks marlo for all the medical knowledge. i hate to have any more procedures, but if we have to, then it's nice to know that it won't be a big deal. and if it helps claire then it's worth it.
