A Yellow Tyler Rose
Every year, since the 1930's, Tyler has hosted a Rose Festival. I grew up going to the Rose Parade, which is held on the Saturday morning of the festival weekend. The entire festival is a big "to do" if you are in it. There are 3 showings of the Queen's Coronation, a men's and women's luncheon on Friday (this year the speaker at the men's luncheon was Nolan Ryan), the Queen's Tea on Friday afternoon, the parade on Saturday morning and the Queen's Ball on Saturday night. Anyway, I have never been to the tea, but this year my cousin was asked to be an escort by one of the Ladies-in-Waiting. So, my aunt asked me to bring Camden and Claire. This event is held at the Rose Garden and all the girls wear their big fancy dresses and their escorts stand beside them and smile. It's basically a chance to meet the ladies and their escorts, have pictures made, etc... Everything was so pretty. I wasn't sure how C and C would react to all the people, the fancy dresses and all the cameras, but they did pretty well. We tried to get some pictures of the girls with my cousin, Parker and his Lady-in-Waiting, Shea, but I ended up having to be in the picture with them. Surprisingly, Claire cooperated more than Camden about having pictures made among the roses. They really could have cared less about the girls, their dresses, or the roses. Their favorite part was getting cookies and punch. They went back 4 times for cookies...yes, I let them have about 4 cookies a piece. It was the only way to get them not to throw a fit or whine. It really surprised me how much time, energy and money they put into this weekend to make it so spectacular! From the dresses that are made (the Queen's dress takes about a year to make-whoa!) to all the gorgeous decorations that are made from roses. They are all amazing! There were so many little girls running around in their Sunday dresses, getting pictures with the Queen. It was really cute! There were also quite a few people asking me permission to take pictures of Camden and Claire. That made me feel good...I think my kids are cute, but to have other people saying they are cute makes me feel very proud!
